Call (615) 604-3887Tag before you drag
TWRA says that before moving harvested big game, you must either check it in on a smartphone or physically tag it and complete check-in before midnight on the day of harvest. These requirements include landowners and hunters exempt from license requirements.
Evidence of sex, species, and antlered status, when applicable, must remain with the animal while afield and until check-in. Read TWRA’s full instructions rather than using this summary as a substitute.

Keep the confirmation with the deer
After check-in, the harvest confirmation number must be available for inspection by TWRA personnel until final processing. TWRA says it must accompany an animal taken to a meat processor, taxidermist, or given to another person.
Keep the number accessible before heading to Country Boy Trades. Ask the shop how it wants the information presented and whether it needs any additional paperwork.

Use an official reporting method
TWRA describes the TWRA On The Go app and temporary transportation tags with subsequent reporting. Its page explains app use without cell service, printed-tag options, and physical check stations.
Big game must also be checked in before being gifted to another person or leaving Tennessee. For an unusual situation, contact TWRA directly; the processor cannot change state reporting requirements.
